BI-ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY LIBRARIANS OF NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

October 18, 2022

The University Librarian attended the 107th Bi-annual meeting of the Association of University Librarians of Nigerian Universities (AULNU) held at Prof. Idris Abdulkadir Auditorium, National Universities Commission, No 26 Aguiyi Ironsi Street Maitama District, Abuja from Sunday 25th to Friday 30th September 2022. The theme of the meeting is LIS Education and Practice in Nigeria: Bridging the Gap between Theory and Efficient Information Service Delivery. As notably posited by Yogi Berra, “in theory there is no difference between theory and practice, in practice there is”. Thus this conference theme looked into the transitioning of theory to practice whilst identifying its peculiarities and proffering, through elaborate and insightful discussion, solutions that would mitigate the effects of the identified gaps between theory and practice, as well as ensure that LIS curriculum is such that produces the expected products for the job market.

There was also a training session for New University Librarians, with the training bordering on Academic and Research Functions of University Librarians; Relationships of University Librarians Within and Outside the University; General Schedule, and Professional Duties of University Librarians. It was indeed a knowledge-packed outing.
