BRIEF PROFILE

Dr. Bruno Martins Nkem is a dedicated academic and lecturer in the Department of Microbiology at Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, Ideato, Imo State, Nigeria. He is committed to advancing knowledge in environmental microbiology and pollution control.

Dr. Nkem earned his PhD in Environmental Pollution Control Technology, specializing in Environmental Microbiology, from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2020. Prior to that, he obtained his MSc in Environmental Monitoring and Management from the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus, in 2013, and his BSc in Microbiology from Madonna University, Elele Campus, Nigeria, in 2008.

His research interests encompass a broad range of topics within Environmental Microbiology, including Petroleum Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, and Soil Microbiology. Dr. Nkem has contributed to the field through various publications and presentations, most notably for his work on indigenous hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria, which earned him a Gold Medal for Invention at Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Dr. Nkem is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Society for Microbiology, the Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), and the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria. He is also involved with Rotary International, emphasizing his commitment to community service and professional development.

He is serving as the Class Adviser for the Microbiology department 2021-2022 set, where he constantly provides guidance and support to students.

Dr. Nkem's excellence in research and innovation has been recognized with multiple awards, including a Gold Medal for his invention at the Invention, Research, and Innovation Exhibition in Malaysia. He also received certificates for presentations at notable conferences, including the International Conference on Environmental Forensics and the Malaysia International Biology Symposium. Additionally, he was honored with the Outstanding Membership Award by Rotary International for his community service efforts.

Dr. Nkem is actively involved in community development initiatives through the Rotary Club of Owerri Sunrise, focusing on projects related to peace and conflict resolution, environment, disease prevention, water and sanitation, and maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy.

HOBBIES: In his spare time, Dr. Nkem enjoys nature photography, field research, writing and blogging, cooking, and advocating for environmental issues. He also loves taking nature walks and immersing himself in reading and research, continually seeking to expand his knowledge and skills.
