Summary of Academic Profile:
Dr Ferdinand Mbah is a seasoned scholar whose academic career has spanned over a decade. A native of Umuozu, Ugiri in the Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State, he teaches in the department of English and Literary Studies at the Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University Ideato, Imo State.
Dr Mbah took his bachelor of arts degree in English and Literary Studies from the Imo State University and his Master and PhD(2010) at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Nigeria. As a graduate student at the prestigious UNILAG, he also cut his wisdom teeth in lectureship, which served as a launchpad for his impending academic career. Upon the completion of his doctorate, followed by a stint in the corporate world helping to produce the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire TV game show for Ultima Studios (2010-2013), he joined the Redeemer's University Ede in 2013. In 2016, he joined the Christopher University Mowe in Ogun State from where, in 2023, he transferred his services to his current institution.
Widely published and eclectic, Dr Mbah is also a journalist of outstanding quality, having trained and worked at the Champion Newspapers in Lagos from 1991-1992.
Dr Mbah's scholarly interests are broad and varied, sweeping across the broad spectrum of literature - drama, prose fiction, and poetry. However, his specialist interest is in dramatic literature especially of the African subgenre. His works leverage post structuralist and postmodernist exegesis mainly to explore subjects around power, politics, gender, women and other postcolonial matters. He has published extensively in reputable local and international journals.
At the Redeemer's University Ede, he was for a number of years Review Editor of Hirentha, the journal of the faculty of Humanities. In addition, he served on several committees helping to advance the university's philosophy in academic and community services. For two years, he acted as the HOD, English and Literary Studies of Christopher University Mowe.
A member of the English Scholars Association of Nigeria, he has earned certificates and awards from a number of international academic journals for his excellent peer review editing services over the years.
He is a member of multiple committees providing sundry services geared at moving the institution along.
Hobbies
A keen lover of football, he loves to play and follow the game. Additionally, jogging and walking are his regular outdoor engagements. He also is an avid player of scrabble.
