Summary of Academic Profile:

Dr. Chidi C. Ukagu, an esteemed literary scholar and critic, teaches Literature courses in the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, at Kingsley Ozumba (K.O.) Mbadiwe University, Ideato South, Imo State, Nigeria. He is originally from Umunam-Atta in the Njaba Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria.

Dr Ukagu bagged a Bachelor's Degree ( B.A. Hons ) in 1999; a Master's Degree ( M . A Literature ) in 2005 , and a Doctorate Degree ( PhD, African Literature and Literary Stylistics ) in 2014 - all from the Department of English Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State ,Nigeria.

Dr Ukagu is a specialist in the criticism of African Literature , with special interest in Nigerian Civil War Literature (novels), Niger Delta Ecocritical Literature and  Feminist  Criticism in which he has published some highly - acclaimed essays in local, national and international journals and peer - reviewed book chapters . He has also presented papers in these areas at various conferences, seminars and workshops.

Dr Ukagu is a distinguished member of the prestigious   Literary Society of Nigeria ( L.S. N. ) , Reading Association of Nigeria (R . A. N) and Mbari Writers Society.

Dr Ukagu is the current Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee, Department of English Language and Literature, as well as a member of the Curriculum Development Committee at the Department. He has served as a Course Adviser ( 2018 Set ).

Dr Ukagu is a recipient of many awards and letters of commendations from various institutions.

For instance, the Education Plus Foundation awarded him a certificate of excellence for his meritorious service at the South - South Edition of the National Spelling Bee Competition among secondary schools ( in 2015, 2016 and 2017, consecutively ).  He also received a merit award from the National Association of Students of English Language and Literature ( NASELL, University of Port Harcourt Chapter ) for his  various contributions to the growth of  literary studies in the Department  ( 2012), as well as a letter of commendation from the Transformation Ambassadors of Atta Nwambiri for his giant strides in promoting education in the Community ( 2023).

Dr Ukagu has presented several motivational speeches at various fora aimed at educating members of the public on a wide - range of crucial issues like : the need for youths to partake peacefully in elections, the dangers of drug abuse and cultism, as the importance of imbibing the reading culture for both individual and national development. As earlier hinted, Dr Ukagu has served as a judge ( together with Prof. Priye Iyalla - Amadi and Professor E. Nsereka ) at the South - South Edition of the National Spelling Competion among secondary schools in Nigeria powered by the highly reputable Edukation Plus Foundation. Dr Ukagu has , through his well - acclaimed textbook entitled : Success Therapy in English Language ( Revised Third Edition, 2021) contributed to the seamless teaching and learning of English among senior secondary school students in Imo State. Dr Ukagu is the Secretary General , The Executive Council, Umunam - Atta Development Union; the Patron , Circle of Atta Students ( C.A.S.), K.O. Mbadiwe University Chapter; member ,Save Atta Nwambiri Community Foundation Scholarship and Mentorship Committee; member Save Atta Nwambiri Community Foundation Education Development Committee and member, Board of Trustees of Save Atta Nwambiri Community Foundation . Dr Ukagu has , through ghost - editing the manuscripts and drafts of creative works by budding writers, contributed enormously to the honing of the latent writing talents among Nigerians.
