Summary of Academic Profile:
Prof. Jude Chibuzo Igwe is a renowned scholar and a professor of Physical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, Ideato, Imo State, Nigeria. He hails from Umuezedike Autonomous Community, Umuobom Clan in Ideato South LGA Imo State.
Prof Igwe obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) in Industrial Chemistry, Second Class Upper, from Abia State University Uturu in 1994. He proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt, River State, where he obtained an M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry in 2003, a Post Graduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering in 2004, M. Eng. in Environmental Engineering in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 2011 and La Plage Meta Verse (LPMV) International Executive Diploma in Disaster Management, 2023.
A strong academic, he is in love with teaching, mentoring and also believes strongly in collaborative research. He is widely published, over ninety-five articles in international journals, thirty conference presentations, fifteen conference proceedings and five textbooks. He has at the moment more than 3253 Citations on Google Scholar, h-index of 24 and i10-index of 39. His research interest spans across: Adsorption, Separation and Kinetic Studies; Corrosion control; Water and Wastewater Treatment; Heavy Metal Toxicology and Hazardous Waste Management; Environmental Impact and Risk Assessment. He has consulted for many industries on chemical products development and manufacturing and has also supervised many undergraduates, Masters and PhD works.
He has also attended many workshops which includes, Nigeria Regional Chemical Security Awareness Workshop by United States Department of Chemical Security, Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) and Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), 2018; Workshop on safe handling of scheduled chemicals, vulnerability assessment and Industry compliance by National Authority on Chemicals and Biological Weapons Convention (NAC &BWC), Political and Economic Affair’s Office (PEAO) in the office of the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (OSGF), 2019; “Digging Deep into Chemistry culture; Chemical Security and Technology Expedition” by Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), 2020; Tetfund Train-The-Trainer step Down on Research Proposal Writing and Grant Management, 2023; NUC & NOUN, Virtual Institute for Capacity Building in Higher Education; Module 7: Practical skills for Delivering CCMAS in an online Environment, 2023.

Prof Igwe is recognized as a very active member of these professional societies as he was Vice Chairman, Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) Abia Chapter, 2014-2017; Chairman, Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) Abia Chapter, 2017-2020; Chairman Abia Chapter of Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) UK Nigerian Region from 2022 to 2024.
Professor Igwe is the HOD, Department of Chemistry, Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, where he has pioneered the activities of the Department and shown great wealth of administrative acumen.
Professor Igwe has won many awards from his undergraduate days till date which includes; Edmund Wilson’s prize for the best first year student in Industrial Chemistry, Abia State University, 1989/1990; Nigerian Breweries prize for the best second year student in Industrial Chemistry, Abia State University, 1990/1991; Best graduating student, Department of Industrial Chemistry, Abia State University, 1994; Marques who is who in Science, 2008; Certificate of Excellence by National Association of Ideato Students, Abia State University Chapter, 2009; Award of Excellence by Students Chemical Society of Nigeria, South East Zone, 2012; Certificate of merit for outstanding Research and Presentation at the International Conference for Academic Disciplines, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona Spain, June 16-19, 2014; TETFUND research grant: Fixed Bed column sorption studies for removal of Reactive dyes from wastewater using sawdust, 2016;TETFUND research grant: Pesticides detoxification from aqueous solutions using activated & unactivated agricultural waste products, 2018;
