Summary of Academic Profile:
Anyanwu Geoffrey Okechukwu, P.hD., a native of Mpam – Ekwerazu in Ahiazu LGA, Mbaise, Imo State, holds a B. A., M. A., and Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Lagos. He also has a Diploma in NGO development and Management from Galilee College Israel and numerous other certificates.
He lectures full-time at Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU) Ideato, Imo State and is the current Ag. HOD of philosophy. He developed the Basic Minimum Academic Standard (BMAS) and Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS) curricula of the department, attends regular Senate meetings where important decisions to track activities in the University are made, organizes and Chairs the monthly Philosophy Departmental Academic Board Meetings, affiliates the department with Philosophy Departments of other institutions, is the course Adviser for the 2022-2023 admission set, the Departmental ICT Officer and single handedly entered KOMU staff in the United Bank of Africa’s data base as partner institution. This makes easier for any staff to do transactions with ease at UBA etc. He was also the HOD of Security and Safety of CLEEN Foundation; an International NGO that won several international and local awards. Many communities in Nigeria enjoyed his immense community services including supervising the implementation of National Crime Survey, the implementation of intervention programmes like Community Policing Forums and Youth Against Crime programmes in Ajegunle and Mushin LGAs of Lagos State; implementation of Needs Assessment Survey in the Niger Delta region which led to the establishment of Monthly Community Stakeholders Interactive Forums in Gokana and Yenogua LGAs of Rivers and Bayelsa States respectively etc.
He lectured part-time in university of Lagos (UNILAG), Christopher University Mowe, Ogun State (UNICHRIS), Ladoke Akintola University and National Open University of Nigeria. His areas of specialisation are philosophy of law, philosophy of science, phenomenology, applied/ethics and African Philosophy. He has won several awards including the prestigious UNILAG Graduate Fellowship Award, with the best graduating GP in masters and distinction in PhD course work. He has made several contributions in both international and local journals and book chapters. He is a member of several professional bodies including Society for Applied Philosophers (SAP), Philosophers Association of Nigeria (PAN) and Association of Professional Philosophers of Nigeria (APPON).
His leisure times are spent reading, watching documentaries and investigative movies, listening to genres of music especially highlife, Afro-juju, Reggae, sentimental and country music. Also enjoys swimming and playing table tennis.
