The Vice-Chancellor, Professor I. N. S Dozie has described the Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, KOMU, Ideato as a smart university campus with a beautiful layout that fits into the concept of today’s modern University, as envisioned by the National Universities Commission, NUC.

Prof. Dozie stated this when the Students of Charles Heerey Memorial Juniorate Urualla paid him a courtesy call at the university campus.

The Vice-Chancellor who took the students down the memory lane in his welcome address said that the Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University was established through the Enactment of the Kingsley Ozumba (KO) Mbadiwe University (Establishment) Law No. 1 of 2021, Imo State of Nigeria by the Imo State House of Assembly and received assent by His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State on 18th February 2021. The Law repealed the Eastern Palm University (Establishment) Law No. 3 of 2016 which was recognized by NUC as the 42nd State University and 143rd in the Nigerian University System. The Law also established the Kingsley Ozumba (KO) Mbadiwe University as a multi-campus university with the Main Campus in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State. Thus, NUC recognizes the Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University as the 42nd State University and the 143rd University in the Nigerian University System and as well, the 2nd Imo State-owned University. And as of today, the number of Universities in Nigeria had increased to 215.

In her remarks, the Principal of the School, Rev. Sr. Mary Clare Emechebe, IHM informed the University Management that Charles Heerey Memorial Juniorate Urualla was established in 1971 by Immaculate Heart Sisters, founded in 1946 by Rev. Fr. Charles Heerey, the Archbishop of Onitsha Diocese. Before he died in 1967, he had developed the concept for the establishment of the school. Thereafter his death, the Immaculate Heart Sisters took up the responsibility to establish a secondary school in the memory of the late Archbishop.

The Principal appreciated the Vice-chancellor for finding time out of his busy schedule to receive the students with his Management Team. Sr. Emechebe said they came to KOMU to visit the University facilities as a way to expose the students of the Juniorate to life in the university in preparation for their future endeavors.

The students, mainly from the SS3 class were happy and delighted with seeing the various facilities in the University and expressed their desire to become future students. The students were conducted around the campus by the University Public Relations Unit.
