It was all praises and thanksgiving on Thursday, 22^nd September 2022 as Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, Ideato held its 2^nd Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service to mark the Vice–Chancellor’s one year in office. The occasion which took place at the Senate Building of the University, had in attendance the Visitor, His Excellency, Distinguished Sen. Hope Uzodinma ably represented by the Sole Administrator Ideato South Local Government Area, Pastor Bede Ikeaka, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu N. S Dozie, his lovely wife Dr (Mrs.) C.P. Dozie and Principal Officers of the university. Other dignitaries who graced the event were the traditional rulers of the host communities led by the Chairman Ideato Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness, HRH Eze G.A. Ezeihekaibee (V), Ezeukwu and the Clan Head of Umuma-Ebenmano and a host of other dignitaries.

The Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service was moderated by Rev. Fr. (Prof.) Jude Onuoha, Venerable Kelechi Okere, Rev. Fr. Jude Onyeakazi and Rev. Fr. Dr. Nath Okwara, who is also the University/Host Community Liaison Officer. During the service, prayers and thanksgiving were offered to God for the peace and progress of the University. While blessing all in attendance, the priests also prayed for God to grant the Visitor, the Vice-Chancellor and the Principal Officers wisdom and synergy to take the University to greater heights.

In his state of the University address titled: “Accelerating Our Progress To Global Competitiveness And World-Class Status- A First Year Assessment”, Prof. Dozie thanked God Almighty who made it possible for him to mark his first year in office. He also appreciated the Visitor, Governor Uzodimma for his appointment as Vice-Chancellor and for his generous support to the University. The Vice-Chancellor reeled out his modest achievements within the period in review which included a smooth transition from Eastern Palm University to Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, approval of the University’s domain name by the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NIRA) and development of the website, regular payment of workers’ salary by government and the release of the 2021/2022 promotion exercise of pioneer staff. In addition to these were procurement of 4. nos. Toyota fairly used vehicles for Principal Officers, completion of teaching staff recruitment exercise, 100% NUC accreditation result for 11 programmes, introduction of new academic programmes, development of virtual classroom for on-line teaching and learning, provision of 100 E-pads for staff and student’s use donated by NCC, staff capacity building trainings, improvement of student’s welfare, regular consultations with host communities and a host of others. He admonished staff to renew their commitment to duty and vowed not to relent until the University attains a commendable level of global competitiveness and world-class status.

Speaking through his representative, the Visitor assured the University community of government’s continued support. Furthermore, the governor advised the traditional rulers of the host communities to partner with University Management to ensure the actualization of the aims and objectives of the University.

The high point of the occasion was the cutting of the anniversary cake and the award of certificates of merits and prizes to deserving staff namely the overall best staff (ie KOMU staff of the year 2021/2022), best academic staff, best non-teaching staff (senior category), best non-teaching staff (junior category) and best security personnel.
