The Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University Ideato hosted a three-man team from the Joint University Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) led by the Registrar/CEO, Professor Wale Okunuga. The team which arrived on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, visited the University on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, to inspect facilities in readiness for the commencement of the JUPEB programme in the university during the 2023/2024 academic session. At the Exit meeting, the JUPEB Registrar expressed satisfaction with the facility tour and interaction with staff of the programme and commended Management for adequate preparations for the exercise. In his welcome remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor I.N.S. Dozie assured the JUPEB Team of the readiness of the institution to commence the programme once the approval is granted. It is notable that the JUPEB programme is preliminary direct entry examination that places successful candidates in the second year of study in the University as an equivalent of the hitherto Advanced Level (A/L) programme conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC). The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that KOMU is exploring all possible avenues to encourage prospective applicants to exploit fully the benefits of increased access to university education in Imo State driven by Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration as envisioned in the 3-R Mantra. He expressed appreciation to Governor Uzodinma for his unstinted support to the sustained growth and development of the institution. The Vice-Chancellor is optimistic that by the end of the current 2022/2023 academic year, all active programmes in the University would have received accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in addition to the JUPEB Programme. This positive development will afford prospective Imo applicants various opportunities to enter the University to benefit from the quality and uninterrupted education and mentorship being offered.
