IDEATO, IMO STATE – February 7, 2025 – Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU) is proud to announce the appointment of its Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aloy Onyeka, as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri. The appointment, approved by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, is effective from February 10, 2025, for a maximum period of six months.

The Federal Ministry of Education announced the appointment in a press release dated February 6, 2025. Professor Onyeka's appointment is a testament to his exceptional leadership, administrative prowess, and dedication to the advancement of higher education in Nigeria. He served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of KOMU with distinction, playing a pivotal role in the university's growth and development.

A Champion of Digital Transformation at KOMU

Until this recent appointment, Professor Onyeka was in charge of the implementation of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ikechukwu N.S. Dozie's vision for digital transformation at KOMU.. He spearheaded the university's digitization efforts, working tirelessly to mainstream ICT for efficient teaching, learning, and administration. His contributions include the development of user-friendly software for academic transcript preparation, results processing, and course re-validation, demonstrating his commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the student and staff experience.

Professor Onyeka, before this appointment, served as a Chief Consultant at OWERRI CBT HI-TECH, a JAMB-approved CBT Centre. He is also the National Coordinator of Say Absolute No To Exam-Malpractice (SANTEM-NG).

An Accomplished Scholar and Administrator

Professor Onyeka is a highly respected scholar with a distinguished academic background. He holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of Ibadan and has made significant contributions to the fields of statistical computing, sampling theory, and survey methodology. He has supervised over 80 successful PhD theses and is a member of several prestigious professional bodies, including the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and the Royal Statistical Society (RSS).

Professor Onyeka's career has spanned various institutions, including the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), where he served as Head of the Department of Statistics and Director of the ICT Centre, and Abia State University, Uturu. His commitment to education extends beyond the university level, as evidenced by his authorship of resource handbooks for secondary and tertiary students.
