HANDOVER: KOMU's 2nd Substantive VC, Prof. Chukwukere, Assumes Office

• Commends Gov. Uzodimma for Appointment

• Calls for Management, Staff Support

The newly appointed 2nd Substantive Vice-Chancellor of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ideato, Imo State, Professor Frances Ngozi Chukwukere, assumed office on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

The special ceremony, which took place at the University's Liaison Office, Owerri, featured the official handover of the University's administration to the new Vice-Chancellor.

Handing over, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Professor Jude-Anthony Ogbulie, who oversaw the affairs of the University for three months, outlined his achievements in office and wished the new Vice-Chancellor well.

Taking over, Prof. Chukwukere expressed gratitude to His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, for appointing her Vice-Chancellor of the University, and pledged her loyalty.

She thanked the DVC, as well as the Management and Staff of the University, for the warm reception accorded her, and assured them of an inclusive administration. She urged the institution's staff to reside within and around the University community for effective and efficient service delivery.

The Vice-Chancellor further appealed to the University's stakeholders to support her administration, assuring them of her determination to lift the institution to greater heights.

Prof. Chukwukere is an accomplished academic and author, with extensive University teaching and administrative experience. She is renowned for her work in indigenous knowledge, health-related advocacy and language preservation. She was recently among the specialised academics appointed by Ohanaeze Ndigbo to help revive and strengthen the Igbo language.

The event, which was marked by a warm expression of love and acceptance of the new Vice-Chancellor, was witnessed by the expanded management of the University, including the Principal Officers, Faculty Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Unit Heads, Special Duty Staff, and friends from Imo University, Owerri.
