The Vice-Chancellor of Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ideato, Imo State Professor Ikechukwu Nosike Simplicius Dozie was on Wednesday, the 8th of June, 2022 honoured with the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN). The event took place during the Maiden Homecoming of the Faculty of Biological Sciences.

The Vice-Chancellor and his team were warmly received at Lion's Building by the Chief Host and Vice-Chancellor of UNN, Professor Charles Igwe. During the courtesy call, Professor Dozie conveyed the warm felicitations of the Governor of Imo State and Visitor to KO Mbadiwe University, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma to the University of Nigeria community. He expressed happiness at visiting his alma mater once again and commended Prof. Igwe and his team for sustaining the culture of excellence and scholarship that UNN is renowned for. In his response, Professor Charles Igwe, ably represented by the DVC Administration, Prof. Patrick Okpoko, expressed his happiness that one of her alumni now heads the 2nd State University in Imo State Nigeria. He pledged that UNN would find ways to support and collaborate with Prof. Dozie in building the young university.

During the homecoming event, Prof. Dozie delivered the Keynote address entitled, “The Alumni – an untapped resource in the Nigerian University system”. One of the high points of the ceremony was the conferment of the Distinguished Alumnus Award on Prof. Dozie in recognition of his accomplishments in the areas of academic/research and administration.  

Another high point of the ceremony was the commissioning of the newly landscaped car park at the back of the Faculty of Biological Sciences block called the JIMBAZ building as well as the planting of a tree in commemoration of the World’s Environment Day Celebration all performed by Prof. Dozie on behalf of the other alumni present at the occasion.

Dignitaries at the event included Prof. Bartho Okolo, former Vice-Chancellor of UNN and Chairman of the occasion; Prof. Johnson Urama, DVC Academic; Barr. Dr. Christopher Igbokwe, Registrar; Professor Polycarp Chigbu, former DVC (Academic) UNN; Prof. Florence Akaneme, Dean Faculty of Biological Sciences; Deans of Faculties; Directors of Institutes; Heads of Departments; Professors and members of the Faculty of Science Academic Board, Alumni and students of UNN.
